Marajuana, a Bong, a lighter, and your Cat

No, this is not the cat or the bong in this story.

Putting your hyperactive cat in your ghetto home made bong is probably not the most brilliant idea.

USA Today:

OMAHA (AP) — A man who tried to cool out his hyper cat by stuffing her into a boxlike homemade bong faces cruelty charges — and catcalls from animal lovers.

Lancaster County sheriff’s deputies responding to a domestic disturbance call Sunday alleged they saw 20-year-old Acea Schomaker smoking marijuana through a piece of garden hose attached to a duct-taped, plastic glass box in which the cat had been stuffed.

“This cat was just dazed,” Sgt. Andy Stebbing said. “She was on the front seat of the cop car, wrapped in a blanket, and never moved all the way to the humane society.”

Schomaker reportedly told deputies 6-month-old Shadow was hyper and he was trying to calm her down. The contraption she had been stuffed inside was 12 inches by 6 inches, deputies said. Shadow was timid but in good condition Monday at the Capital Humane Society, executive director Bob Downey said.

“What the human mind doesn’t invent, huh?” Downey said.

Parents Outraged That Bakery Denies Writing Son’s Name on Cake…. His Name Adolf Hitler !

This is not only ridiculous but tragic, that in this day in age anyone would burden their child and relegate him to what will no doubt be a life of ostricization and being a social outcast by naming their son after the most brutal tyrant of the 20th century, who slaughtered 6 million people and that is not counting all the allied soldiers fighting against the axis powers.

Anyway a Pennsylvania family is now outraged, as well as both awkwardly espousing and softly denying their Nazi sympathies, after criticizing a local bakery for not writing the name of their three year old son Adolf Hitler Campbell. They later did go to a Wal- Mart that wrote the name on the cake instead.

This is cruel. Though one could say who is the bakery to decide what is and is not offensive, and I am not suggesting that they legally ban someone naming a child after Hitler as they do in Eastern European countries. But the fact that anyone would actually do this in the 20th century is really outrageous and shows that people don’t necessarily grow more intelligent over time.

Associated Press:

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — The father of 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell, denied a birthday cake with the child’s full name on it by one New Jersey supermarket, is asking for a little tolerance. Heath Campbell and his wife, Deborah, are upset not only with the decision made by the Greenwich ShopRite, but with an outpouring of angry Internet postings in response to a local newspaper article over the weekend on their flare-up over frosting.

“I think people need to take their heads out of the cloud they’ve been in and start focusing on the future and not on the past,” Heath Campbell said Tuesday in an interview conducted in Easton, on the other side of the Delaware River from where the family lives in Hunterdon County, N.J.

“There’s a new president and he says it’s time for a change; well, then it’s time for a change,” the 35-year-old continued. “They need to accept a name. A name’s a name. The kid isn’t going to grow up and do what (Hitler) did.

He says he named his child after Hitler, not because he admires what the Getrman dictator did, but because he just liked the name because it is so unique and so uncommon. There is a reason for that you know? So naming your son after Adolf Hitler, just a mistake made after a drunken night in the Mel Gibson spirit? Well the Campbells have also cursed their two children with racist names, one after the white supremacist organization the Aryan Nation and the other after high level Hitler associate and Nazi Heinrich Himmler.

The Campbells’ other two children also have unusual names: JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell turns 2 in a few months and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell will be 1 in April.

Heath Campbell said he named his son after Adolf Hitler because he liked the name and because “no one else in the world would have that name.” He sounded surprised by all the controversy the dispute had generated.

Campbell said his ancestors are German and that he has lived his entire life in Hunterdon County. On Tuesday he wore a pair of black boots he said were worn by a German soldier during World War II.

McCain Supporter: Kill Obama

Even the slightest scintilla of doubt that this Presidential campaign would not descend into a pit of thick vitriolic allegations, inflated past associations, and a parade of deceptive statements, was removed this weekend when Republican Vice Presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Ak) brought up Obama’s past association with 1960s weatherman Bill Ayers, and Monday resurrected Jeremiah Wright (despite past statements by McCain that he would refrain from doing such a thing in this campaign). The Obama campaign responded by resurrecting the Keating five scandal and McCain’s involvement in that.

This all amidst the backdrop of the Dow Plunging, a credit crisis, and the implosion of the housing market. Not to mention the U.S being entrenched in two wars.

But yesterday it went from ugly to just plain reckless and even dangerous when at a Florida rally this occurred:

Washington Post:

“Now it turns out, one of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers,” Palin said.

“Boooo!” said the crowd.

“And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, ‘launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,'” she continued.

“Boooo!” the crowd repeated.

“Kill him!” proposed one man in the audience.

Palin went on to say that “Obama held one of the first meetings of his political career in Bill Ayers’s living room, and they’ve worked together on various projects in Chicago.” Here, Palin began to connect the dots. “These are the same guys who think that patriotism is paying higher taxes — remember that’s what Joe Biden had said. “And” — she paused and sighed — “I am just so fearful that this is not a man who sees America the way you and I see America, as the greatest force for good in the world. I’m afraid this is someone who sees America as ‘imperfect enough’ to work with a former domestic terrorist who had targeted his own country.”

“Boooo!” said the audience.

This campaign is descending into an absolute hate fest, especially on the McCain side. A jacobinical idiot shouts that a U.S presidential candidate should be murdered and the Vice presidential candidate, says nothing. He proposes committing an act of domestic terrorism against a U.S presidential candidate as a response to a few past encounters that a Presidential candidate had with an abhorrent yet obscure radical who committed acts of domestic terrorism? These McCain campaign events seem to now be less campaign rallies and more like witch hunts. Shame on you Sarah Palin and that goes double for the former maverick. He may say country first, but it seems his real attitude is me first, and country go to hell!

Sarah Palin, She’s Just Joseph McCarthy in Lipstick and High Heels

Guess this is what Sarah palin (R-Alaska) is like without the lipstick and high heels.

Dick Cheney and others in the Bush/Cheney Administration are notorious for impugning the patriotism of anyone who questions and criticizes them, especially on foreign and defense matters (which is ironic for a cadre of men who were I guess too patriotic to serve their country in Vietnam when they were called forth).

Anyway, Now McCain (who of course nobody is more patriotic then, I mean George Washington was even likely seen as a traitor when he and John McCain fought alongside each other in the American Revolution), has sold the last tattered vestiges of what he called a soul, as Sarah Palin Saturday evoked 1960s radical William Ayers and the fact that Obama happened to meet Ayers, as proof that he is un-American. McCarthyism, how is that “maverick”?

Fox News:

Palin, speaking at a closed fundraiser in Colorado, was referencing Obama’s ties to Bill Ayers, a founder of the 1960s radical group The Weather Underground. That relationship was examined in a front-page article in The New York Times on Saturday.

“This is not a man who sees America as you see America, and as I see America,” Palin said. “Our opponent, though, is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect — imperfect enough that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country. Americans need to know this. … I think, OK we gotta get the word out. This is in fairness to the electorate we gotta start telling people what the other side represents.”

Hey the 1950s called, they said they want their perky catchphrases and their quasi fascist McCarthyistic tactics back. In the closing weeks of the campaign, prepare for more of this. The McCain/Palin ticket feels backed into a corner because of Obama/Biden’s new strength in the polls, the seemingly endless flow of poor economic news, and the legacy of shame from the current President(s) that McCain aided and abetted.

UPDATE: (10:37 p.m. E/T) It sounds like Obama will not take these attacks lying down. Politico reports that on Monday, they will be releasing an ad that will address McCain’s absence of a plan on the economy as well as his “erratic” behavior in response to a crisis. Obama is going to have address this by being aggressive, but at the same time not demeaning his stripe of politics. This might be the best angle. And on the subject of responding to a crisis, they should also mention how he and George W Bush were eating cake on a tarmac, while so many were drowning and dying in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck.

And Conservatives Wonder Why They get So Little African-American Support

After news that the head of the Pennsylvania Federation of College Republican leader had to resign his position after making racially offensive remarks about Democratic Presidential Candidate Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill) on his facebook page, it looks like the so-called conservative “base” (base one could say is the best way to describe them and their tactics), have caught heat over a product at a vendor at the “Value Voter’s Summit” (one of the values of these voters I guess is outright racism). Its difficult to believe in the twenty-first century that there are still minds so undeveloped as these.

Minneapolis Star Tribune:

Values Voter Summit organizers cut off sales of Obama Waffles boxes on Saturday, saying they had not realized the boxes displayed “offensive material.” The summit and the exhibit hall where the boxes were sold had been open since Thursday afternoon.

The box was meant as political satire, said Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss, two writers from Franklin, Tenn., who created the mix. They sold it for $10 a box from a rented booth at the summit sponsored by the lobbying arm of the Family Research Council.

David Nammo, executive director of the lobbying group FRC Action, said summit organizers were told the boxes were a parody of Obama’s policy positions but had not examined them closely.

Republican Party stalwarts Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney were among speakers at the forum, which officials said drew 2,100 activists from 44 states.

While Obama Waffles takes aim at Obama’s politics by poking fun at his public remarks and positions on issues, it also plays off the old image of the pancake-mix icon Aunt Jemima, which has been widely criticized as a demeaning stereotype. Obama is portrayed with popping eyes and big, thick lips as he stares at a plate of waffles and smiles broadly.

Placing Obama in Arab-like headdress recalls the false rumor that he is a follower of Islam, though he is actually a Christian.

On the back of the box, Obama is depicted in stereotypical Mexican dress, including a sombrero, above a recipe for “Open Border Fiesta Waffles” that says it can serve “4 or more illegal aliens.” The recipe includes a tip: “While waiting for these zesty treats to invade your home, why not learn a foreign language?”

Pissing off three ethnic groups at the same time. Its amazing that conservative figures like Romney and Gingrich would get anywhere near this, although in fairness to them one can’t know of everything that is being sold at these Conservative hootenannies. But the excuse that they didn’t know this was racially offensive in anyway is ridiculous. Anyone with an IQ in the double digits would know that this is racist, not to mention xenophobic. I suppose they put on a minstrel show as entertainment.

McCain on Corsi book: "Gotta Keep your sense of Humor sense of humor."

It is hypocritical and ironic that a self described “straight talker” like Senator John McCain (R-AZ), uses character and often extols the virtues of good character, but suddenly when his opponents’character is under fire from a bigoted writer like Jerome Corsi, he basically says Obama should just laugh it off. And I bet he found those allegations back in the 2000 Republican primary race by then Texas Governor George W Bush (R-TX) and his supporters, that McCain had brain damage from his time as POW and that he had illegitimately fathered a black child were a laugh out loud riot.

Los Angeles Times:

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee was asked by a reporter if he had a response to the best-selling “Obama Nation” by Jerome Corsi, which repeats discredited allegations about Obama and portrays him as a stealth radical with extensive Muslim ties

McCain stepped toward the reporter, and the journalist repeated the question: “The Jerome Corsi book? That book, ‘Obama Nation,’ Jerome Corsi, that some people are asking . . . “

The senator replied, “Gotta keep your sense of humor,” and the media were escorted from the room as scheduled at the end of a breakfast meeting.

McCain’s campaign later said that the candidate misheard the question at the time.

However, when MSNBC questions whether McCain got some of the questions ahead of time, or simply watched them on tv, the McCain campaign lashes out at NBC. Where is that sense of humor Senator McCain?

Well to McCain there is a double standard. Both the campaign style of the new John McCain and his embrace of the neoconservatives foreign policy can be summed up by the statement of a past Arizona Senator and Republican Presidential Candidate that “extremism in defense of liberty is no vice.” In other words that the means justify the end. And just think if he is elected President, we can look forward to that as America’s new mantra.

UPDATE (11:54 p.m. ET): McCain’s story on “Pure evil” at the Rick Warren Saddleback forum is now also being strongly disputed. Hope McCain maintains his sense of humor. The once steady straight talk seems to constantly veer off the steady path (and recently crash).

Micheal Savage: Autistic Children are Brats

Conservative Shock jock and Autism denier Michael Wiener, also known as Michael Savage.

Usually I don’t like to get on and blog about outrage sparked by some shock jock or tv host, who makes provocative comments that are either made to garner attention, but I make an exception here.

Michael Wiener, better known the listeners of his conservative Nationally syndicated talk show as Michael Savage, has been known before to enter fields with often outlandish and course remarks. In 2004, his MSNBC weekend talk show was canceled after he told a caller that he hoped that they would “get Aids and die”. He has sounded off and made fiery statements against Gays, called liberalism a mental disorder, said those who speak out in the war on terror should be jailed, and has made various offensive remarks against Muslims, immigrants (particularly Mexicans), and other groups.

But now the Conservative shock jock has entered that familiar territory when he called Autism “a fraud” and that autism “in 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out.”

The following is a bit of the transcript of a June 16 broadcast where he made the remark, as documented by Media

Media Matters:

Now, the illness du jour is autism. You know what autism is? I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is.

What do you mean they scream and they’re silent? They don’t have a father around to tell them, “Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.”

Autism — everybody has an illness. If I behaved like a fool, my father called me a fool. And he said to me, “Don’t behave like a fool.” The worst thing he said — “Don’t behave like a fool. Don’t be anybody’s dummy. Don’t sound like an idiot. Don’t act like a girl. Don’t cry.” That’s what I was raised with. That’s what you should raise your children with. Stop with the sensitivity training. You’re turning your son into a girl, and you’re turning your nation into a nation of losers and beaten men. That’s why we have the politicians we have.

Thats great. Going after children that have a mental disorder that they were born with and that cause those afflicted to face daunting challenges every day. What next is he going to call Cancer a scam? Maybe that quadriplegics are just wheel chair bound because they are too lazy to get up?

What a loser. Autism is very real and it is a disorder that in a variety of ways affects as many as 1 in every 150 children born.

Since then the autism community has responded. Here is how the Autism society of America reacted in a statement.

This week, talk show host Michael Savage made inaccurate and derogatory comments about autism on his radio show, calling the condition “a fraud” and the result of a lack of parental discipline. Mr. Savage’s unsubstantiated comments reflect the misconceptions of over 50 years ago that autism was caused by “refrigerator mothers” or unemotional parenting, which have been completely disproven by the scientific community. Autism is a neuro-developmental medical condition that requires early identification and lifelong treatment. For over 40 years, the Autism Society of America has worked tirelessly to educate people on the nature of autism spectrum disorders, the services and support families need, and the tremendous potential of people on the autism spectrum. We are dismayed that these grossly inaccurate remarks would be aired in any platform, much less on a nationally syndicated show. We will continue to work with families, people with autism and the broader public to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorders.

Here are some facts on Autism.

Michael Wiener, (Savage), ladies and Gentlemen, proof that Darwinism can work in reverse.

Parents and advocates for the disabled have also reacted with strong protests and some have even called for his firing from the Talk Radio Network. One station in Mississippi has already cancelled his show over the remarks.

But Wiener, I am sorry I mean “Savage” last night responded to the protests and criticism of his comments on his website, and remains unrepentant.

Michael Savage:

My comments about autism were meant to boldly awaken parents and children to the medical community’s attempt to label too many children or adults as “autistic.”

Just as some drug companies have over diagnosed “ADD” and “ADHD” to peddle dangerous speed-like drugs to children as young as 4 years of age, this cartel of doctors and drug companies is now creating a national panic by over diagnosing “autism, for which there is no definitive medical diagnosis!

Many children are being victimized by being diagnosed with an “illness” which may not exist, in all cases. Just a few weeks ago doctors recommended dangerous anti-cholesterol drugs for children as young as 2 years of age! Without any scientific studies on the possible dangers of such drugs on children, corrupt doctors made this controversial, unscientific recommendation.

Increasingly, our children are being used as profit centers by a greedy, corrupt medical/pharmaceutical establishment. As the brother of a severely disabled person who suffered and died in a New York “snake-pit” of a “mental hospital,” I know first-hand what true disability is.

To permit greedy doctors to include children in medical categories which may not be appropriate is a crime against that child and their family. Let the truly autistic be treated. Let the falsely diagnosed be free.

In the same broadcast in fact before the comments cited above, he called autism “a fraud, a racket, and went after minority children with asthma. Really classy.

SAVAGE: Now, you want me to tell you my opinion on autism, since I’m not talking about autism? A fraud, a racket. For a long while, we were hearing that every minority child had asthma. Why did they sudden — why was there an asthma epidemic amongst minority children? Because I’ll tell you why: The children got extra welfare if they were disabled, and they got extra help in school. It was a money racket. Everyone went in and was told [fake cough], “When the nurse looks at you, you go [fake cough], ‘I don’t know, the dust got me.’ ” See, everyone had asthma from the minority community. That was number one

MY TAKE: One point, Savage does raise an interesting issue about children being misdiagnosed and over medicated. But nonetheless his comments were heartless and offensive. After all, he said 99 percent of kids with Autism are brats. In other words, they somehow brought this on themselves, and that the existence of Autism is a myth pushed by a craven nexus between the pharmaceutical and medical industries for profit.

I am torn on whether this lunatic should be taken off the air or not. If the Talk Radio Network fires him, he looks like a martyr of free speech for his misinformed and moronic listeners. If you hire Michael Wiener, you know what you are getting. A Xenophobic racist, homophobe who cares nothing for people and who would probably thought Schindler’s List was a feel good comedy. Besides he may be stupid, but even stupid speech is protected. However there have to be standards. The rest of the radio and broadcast community needs to know there are standards and that facts matter. Also, he is on the public airwaves and the Talk Radio Network may want to consider whether it is worth it to continue being associated with this jack-ass who stoops so low and peddles so much disinformation.
