McCain Proud of Anti-Catholic Neoconservative Preacher’s Support

McCain accepts endorsement of controversial anti-catholic pastor.

This week in the Democratic debate on MSNBC, Democratic contender for the Presidential nomination Barack Obama was questioned about the unwelcome endorsement of the odious Louis Farrakhan who has been known in the past for espousing doctrines and points of view that are hostile towards both whites and those of the Jewish faith. Obama retorted by both “denouncing and rejecting” Farrakhan.

But yesterday Republican Presidential candidate Senator John McCain (R-Az),warmly accepted the backing of a controversial and prejudice jacobinical preacher John Hagee, who amongst other things is known for his steadfast support of Israel and his conviction that there will be a fiery end times battle between good and evil.
Also he is known as a fountain of anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic, and anti-Catholic; as well as his clamor for war in the Middle East, especially Iran. Sounds just like Jesus huh?

Well this story has been making the rounds online.

Reuters:

In his book, “Jerusalem Countdown: A Warning to the World” Hagee predicts Russian and Arab armies will invade Israel and be destroyed by God. Israel will then be the site of battle between China and the west, which will be led by the the anti-Christ in his role as head of the European Union. Jesus Christ will return to Earth in the final battle he writes.

The book also claims Adolph Hitler and the Roman Catholic Church joined in a conspiracy to destroy the Jews.

One would not be astonished to learn, that many Catholics (especially conservative Catholics) have been offended by the bigotry of this backwards and delusional old man. But McCain states that he is proud of the endorsement. Between this and the Cunningham tirade, this just shows that those who desecrate religion by using it to justify hate, stupidity, deceitfulness, and backwards thinking that has no place in a civilized society, shows that prejudice is live and well in the ranks of the conservative base. Or maybe we should refer to this handful of individuals who drag God through the mud and substitute love with hate, as “base conservatives”.

Its these snake oil salesmen like Hagee are the most revolting. They believe that they are vessels of God and that only they, white Anglo-Saxon straight old men who are adherents to a certain flavor of Christianity can enter the gates of heaven and be blessed by God, while everyone else is evil and should be damned to an eternity in hell (or worse yet a mass conducted by Hagae).

Well I believe in God and heaven, but I don’t believe any of the violent and sickening delusions that this guy spouts. he is just as bad if not worse then Farrakhan and at least Obama didn’t embrace Farrakhan standing on stage alongside him and denounced him. McCain was shameless enough to embrace his hate mongering supporter.

UPDATE 2/29/08: McCain announced that he welcomes Haggae’s endorsement but doesn’t endorse everything that Hagae says. The same conservatives like Sean Hannity who are likely to defend Hagae, are regularly pouncing on Obama and tying him to Farrakhan. Guess the Straight Talk Express is in the auto body shop for repairs!

U.S Secratary of Defense Urges a Withdrawl from Iraq……….

Well not a withdrawal of U.S forces from Iraq, but for Turkey to cease its military actions in Northern Iraq against Kurdish rebels. I just think its weird and refreshing for a Bush administration official to call for the withdrawal of Military forces from Iraq. Now if only they viewed getting our soldiers out of Iraq as rapidly as they seek the Turks to remove theirs.

ABC News:

“Its very important that the Turks make this operation as short as possible and then leave,” Gates said late Wednesday from India before heading to Turkey. “They have to be mindful of Iraqi sovereignty. I measure quick in terms of days, a week or two, something like that not months.”

Yeah unilaterally invading Iraq, with promises of a quick military intervention on the grounds of a threat on the horizon,…. that is so our material as America. Invade some other country.

I mean look the Turks are even ripping us off on the Bush/Cheney refusal to have a timeline and extract military forces. Can’t they come up with something ORIGINAL!

“Our objective is clear. Our mission is clear and there is no timetable… until the terrorists bases are eliminated,” he said [Turkish foreign Minister Hoshyor Zebari] shortly after arriving in the capital at the helm of a delegation to discuss the military action.

So its Iraq for me and not for thee!

Maybe we should think about heeding the wisdom of that same advice that we give the Turks.

BOXOBITUARIES-Conservative Icon and Commentator William F Buckley Jr at the Age of 82

Conservative pundit and pioneer William F Buckley Jr, dead at age 82.

William F Buckley Jr, The intellectual voice that inspired many and created a vanguard in conservative politics with his writing, commentary, and advocacy, died today at his Connecticut estate. He was 82 years of age.

The cause of death is not yet specific, however Buckley was afflicted by diabetes and emphysema.

Buckley was born in New York in 1925, to a wealthy family in the oil business. The bulk of his education was at boarding schools in Europe.

Following a brief stint in the Army, he attended Yale and eventually authored his first book God and Man at Yale in 1951. In it he was critical of what he saw as a liberal culture at Yale and in the world of academia.

Eloquent speaking, skilled debater, and great intellectual capacity were tools Buckley used in pushing a new brand of conservatism that went beyond the more outdated and stale pre-New Deal paleo-Conservatism. He was a strong defender of anti-communist demagogue and U.S Senator Joseph McCarthy (R-Wisconsin), who made accusations and carried out public hearings accusing many prominent figures and political opponents of being communists seeking to overthrow the United states.

In 1955 he made what was perhaps his chief contribution to the conservative political movement, when he and partner established the conservative publication the National Review. The National Review would become an intellectual island of sort for conservatives in an America and era that still was fond of the New Deal Era liberalism. But Buckley with his charm, illustrious body of vocabulary, and command of the facts was one of the few conservatives to be taken seriously as an intellectual, and not a gadfly in the mold of the John Birch Society, which he was once associated with but later rejected.

In the 1960s Buckley began a syndicated newspaper column that still ran up until his death. Later in that decade, Buckley entered the still fairly new arena of television (even getting into a very caustic public argument with liberal academic Gore Vidal), by providing political commentary. In 1969, he began his three decades long run as host of the PBS political talk show “Firing Line”, where he interacted with a number of guests including Noam Chomsky and poet Allen Ginsberg, always able to probe deeply in an interview but at the same time have a gracious sense of humor about him.

Buckley’s reach was however not merely in the words of commentary, but also in national government. It was the Buckley style conservatism that had some presence in the 1964 Republican nomination of firebrand conservative Senator Barry Goldwater (R-Arizona) who would later go on to be trounced in the general election to then President Lyndon Baines Johnson. But it was the same Buckley pedigree of conservatism that helped Richard Nixon capture the White House in 1968.

Although Nixon was less conservative and more centrist then Buckley, Nixon’s presidency and Buckley’s influence would later lay the foundation for the organizing of the conservative wing that would reach its political apex in the 1980s and 1990s, with the election of Ronald Reagan as President and in 1994 the taking of the House of Representatives and senate for the first time since 1954.

Despite his retirement from the post of editor of National Review in 1990, Buckley kept writing. Over the course of his career he dabbled in both non-fiction and fiction. He also continued to author his weekly syndicated column.

When he died, Buckley was in the process of authoring a forthcoming book about Barry Goldwater.

News of Buckley’s death got reaction everywhere from ex-first lady Nancy Reagan, ex-speaker of the U.S House Representatives and Conservative guru Newt Gingrich(R-GA), as well as radio shock jock Rush Limbaugh, and of course the staff at the National Review.
